Amazon Enters India
Powered by Amazon, a $48 billion company Junglee.com starts its forays in to Indian e commerce sector. The site went live on Thursday. Junglee.com enables customers to find products from offline and online retailers in India and from Amazon.
Amazon claims that customers can find over 1.2 crore products and 14,000 brands. Amazon launched in 1994 by Jeff Bezos quickly swelled to become the world’s largest online retailer. Now Amazon is worth $48 Billion and Jeff Bezos is worth $18.1 Billion.
The e-commerce market in India has more than doubled from a $ 4 bn in 2009 to nearly $ 10 billion in 2011. And the chances are ripe that it will double in coming two to three years.
A downside of Junglee.com is that you cannot buy anything on it. You have to buy the product from the sellers’ site but you can log into Junglee with you Amazon account to rate products or write reviews…
For now, Junglee looks like a comparison search engine but It will give a lot of options to consumers and sellers. Now you can choose the cheap and best product without leaving your Mac.
It will also highlight lesser-known merchants in India. In the long run Junglee can give a tough competition to Flip-kart.
