Google has officially rolled out the new features it teased in May at the Google I/O. These features make it simpler for the users to explore restaurants and bars based on their taste. The new Google Maps feature are available through the latest update (users can use App Store or Play Store to update the app).
The “Explore” tab has been heavily redesigned to present a variety of new, practical features that will simplify your hunt for the most happening and best-rated restaurants and pubs in a specific area.
Redesigned “Explore” Tab
When searching for directions in Google My Business Maps or checking a location, users can tap on the “Explore” tab to find more personalized recommendations for cafes, restaurants and pubs in that particular area/location.
The tab will now feature a new section named “The Foodie List” that will list the top spots in a particular city depending on trending expert lists, reviews and Google’s algorithms.
“Your Match” Scores
Google will now use a combination of your browsing history (including your reviews) and the reviews of a particular place to determine how likely are you to enjoy the specific place you are checking out online on Google Maps. The new feature “Your Match” will give you a numeric rating based on your preferences.
Moreover, users can now add more personal information to Google Maps to get personalized food and drink recommendations. Users can open the settings tab and choose the preferred types of cuisines and restaurants to personalize their results.
A brand new “For You” tab has been added to Google Maps to help users stay informed about what’s happening in their areas (work, home, specific preferred neighbourhood) or areas they frequent (including favorite cities/locations).
Google will also let users follow neighborhoods to check if there’s a new restaurant or cafe open (depending on match score). This feature will also help users get updated if their frequented or favorite hangout/dining spot (restaurants or pubs) is in news.
The update gives Android users a bonus feature (exclusive to Android) using which users can automatically track the number of top-ranked spots they visited.
Another Android exclusive feature lets users see the photos, descriptions of top events- activities happening in a specific area along with category filters like “good for kids,” “affordable” or “indoor/outdoor”, etc.
