In a significant move, YouTube is taking a new step for its creators to change viewers’ behavior on the platform. YouTube announces that they will remove dislike count from their portal. However, the button will not disappear, and dislikes will now show to the creators only.
As per YouTube officials, we attempt to create a place where creators, such as small or large, can share their thoughts. To ensure the YouTube promoter’s respectful interactions between viewers and creators, we have launched some changes and features to improve the experience. The change started with the dislike button earlier; we experimented to see whether the change could help the creator from harassment or not and reduce dislike attacks.
YouTube heard from many small creators that a group of people had targeted them, and they excessively hit the dislike button on their channel. Based on their study, the online video sharing platform, YouTub decided to make the dislike counts private to creators only. The change will initiate slowly but roll out today.
What is changing for Viewers and Creators Today?
The creators will still be able to discover their exact dislike counts in YouTube studio along with their existing metrics. They can find how their content is performing on YouTube.
After an announcement came, YouTube experimented with hiding dislike with limited users. In this experiment process, the Google-owned streaming ample notice of a reducing dislike attacking behavior.
Moreover, during this experiment, they heard that few of the users use the public dislike count to help decide whether to watch the video or not. We know that this, not the right thing, and you can’t agree with this, but it is the appropriate decision for the platform – said YoutTube officials.
YouTube is Not the Only One Who Introduce Change
YouTube experiments with different dislike counts, like adding a button of dislike that shows below thumbs button down rather than disapproval. But this is the final design on which YouTube settles and this minor attention-seeking change in the line of engagement.
YouTube Company is not the first who adopt this change of reducing public visibility that conveys people’s emotions. A few years ago, Instagram started testing to hide like counts globally for some mental health problems. It is created to achieve likes that can harm its group and make creators less interested in expressing their thoughts.
Why did YouTube introduce this Change?
By this initiative, they want to create a respectful environment where creators can safely express their emotions. This is one of many actions the brand is taking for the safety of creators from harassment.
YouTube has also started rolling out a redesigned “New to you” tab on its portal for users to explore content quickly, and it is not part of usual recommendations.
